SAASA Programs
Peer Players
We are always looking for enthusiastic students to help us educate our peers on sexual assault!
Vision Statement
Our vision, as members of SAASA, is to raise awareness, educate and provide a safe, non-threatening forum on issues of sexual assault. We hope to accomplish this through creative, wide-ranging presentations that are conducive to discussion for both women and men. Sexual assault affects us all, so we aim to reach everyone regardless of gender, age, race, culture, economic status, ability and sexual orientation. We are students helping students.
SAASA began the Peer Education program at UT in Fall 2000, which gives creative and interactive presentations to students about issues of sexual assault. Although the skits are modeled after similar programs in other universities, scripts are completely created and acted by students to educate their peers.
Please contact Kim Ouimette at pearl1980@aol.com to request a performance and discussion or to find out more about becoming a Peer Player.
Self Defense Classes
We offer free self defense classes in the fall to groups of ten or more. Groups must be all female or all male, and are taught by Suzanne Pinette, the founder of Sun Dragon, a martial arts school for women and children. Classes are three hours long and very empowering. With prior approval of the current SAASA director, the group must reserve the room and arrange a date and time with Suzanne Pinette.
