History
The Beginning: Sigma Delta Lambda was first founded in 1996 at Texas State University at San Marcos. The 11 founding
mothers believed that the university was lacking an organization that provided a support network geared toward helping Latina women succeed.
On May 5, 1999, the dream of Sigma Delta Lambda was brought to the University of Texas at Austin. Six women dedicated
themselves to make this dream a reality. On November 16, 2000, the organization received CLUB status. The organization
continued to grow, and on April 20, 2001, the members of this organization reached COLONY status. On June 8, 2002, the
Beta colony was awarded CHAPTER status. After three years of unwavering loyalty and dedication, this dream became a reality.
