Muslim Voices Release Ceremony
Thursday, May 3, 2007 - Muslim Voices Issue II is finally here! Join us for the ceremony in celebration of the release of this long awaited magazine. The ceremony will be this Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Texas Union, Sinclair Suite (Room 3.128). Be sure to bring your friends and family. We hope to see you there! Lecture-Talk: Karbala: A Message for Unity and Social Responsibility
Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - The Pakistani Students Association and the Society for Islamic Awareness are holding a lecture-talk about the event of Karbala and how the great tragedy of Imam Hussain (may peace be upon him) exemplifies a model for unity and an everlasting instruction regarding humankind's social responsibilities. Ramadhan: Nourishing the Soul
Tuesday, Oct 17, 2006 - SIA held a lecture-talk on the topic of spirituality during the month of Ramadan. Sheikh Jafar Muhibullah, from North Carolina (currently serving as the resident scholar of the Islamic Ahlul Bayt Association, Austin TX) discussed the philosophy of Ramadan and the importance of building the spiritual self. The discussion was followed by a Q/A session and ended with Salaat and Iftar. Click here for more details!



 

Muslim Voices Release Ceremony!!!
Friday, May 3, 2006 - Last year, SIA began the Muslim Voices magazine project to provide a platform to UT Muslim students to express themselves and connect with each other and to inform the general readers about the expressions and experiences of Muslims in the West. The purpose of the magazine was introduced, followed by authors and contributors sharing their thoughts on the magazine and their shared work. The event ended with cake and refreshments. A Call for Muslim Solidarity
Friday, March 3, 2006 - The Muslim community at the University of Texas and from all around Austin gathered together on March 3, 2006 at 6:30 p.m at the Main Mall for a sit-in, A Call for Muslim Solidarity , denouncing the loss of human lives and the sacrilege of holy sites across Iraq and abroad. The Danish Cartoons and Freedom of Speech in Islam
Friday, February 24, 2006 - SIA invited the UT community for a lecture-talk event, discussing the controversy of the Danish Caricatures depicting Islam and its personalities in a demeaning manner, Islam's take on freedom of speech, and what place spirituality should have in our society. Imam Hussain - the Martyr of Islam
February 8, 2006 - SIA held a Roundtable discussion with Scholar Rizwan Arastu on the topic of "Imam Hussain: The Martyr of Islam." Who was Imam Hussain? Why was he martyred in Karbala? Why do people shed tears in his name still today? What was the impact of his resistance against the tyrant Yazid? Islam: Blind Faith or Rational Following?
On November 9th, 2005 SIA held a lecture event titled "Islam: Blind Faith or Rational Following." Sheikh Safdar Razi, the spiritual guide at the Islamic Ahlul Bayt Association here in Austin, Texas, gave a presentation on the importance reason, rational thought, and science in the religion of Islam. Imam Hussain and Islam: The Ideals of Human Dignity and Justice
On March 9th, SIA held its first event, an academic talk on the topic, “Imam Hussain and Islam: the Ideals of Human Dignity and Justice”, which was presented at the UT campus. Speaker Maulana Sulayman Hassan of Washington D.C presented the tragedy of Karbala and the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (as), and related Hussain's message as being a focal point for all human beings.
