  Divine justice

By: Murtaza Mutahhari
Type: Beliefs and Practices

Divine Justice is the realm of Ilmul-Kalam (Theology). However, Murtaza Mutahhari approaches it from philosophical view and answers some of the questions that inevitably arises in the human mind. A troubling question that atheists raise, for example, is the origin and existence of evil vis-a-vis theistic notion of Divine Justice. Mutahhari has used a paradox to put into perspective the whole issue of free will and predestination. He has elucidated the Shia position of>neither predestination nor absolute free will, rather "the Divine decree and destiny which has willed the human [to exist], has also willed his freedom of choice. In other words, man is compelled to be free." Mutahhari's matchless effort to unravel a complex ennui of Divine Justice places this work among the classics of contemporary Islamic literature.
