The book focuses on the spiritual and social values of Islam: peace, compassion, and social justice. The author probes Islamic scripture and traditional sources, contrasts counterparts in other faiths, and challenges others to understand Muslim society and beliefs, including the Muslims themselves. Nasr addresses the issues that non-Muslims have on their minds within the context of the vitality and vision of Islam more generally.
