Okay, okay. So why change a good thing?
In the 2004-2005 school year, NCAA rules changed about spirit groups for athletic teams. Many of the spirit organizations around campus had to change their names and had to abide by these new rules. Hence, the Matchmates became the Texas Aces!
Texas Aces Today
The club was formed to increase awareness and Longhorn spirit for the University of Texas Tennis teams. We continue that tradition today in different ways throughout the year. We help by scoring the matches so the audience can keep track of the matches. We also make banners and attend matches to help give the Longhorn tennis players a home court advantage.
In the past two years, we have been restructuring and trying to find a balance between activites the Matchmates did and what we can do now. We are always looking for new ideas to get the group together, to have fun, and to spread UT tennis spirit. We are currently brainstorming and planning for this year, so look forward to news about upcoming events!
