The Officers

 

Director: Brooke Carpin

Junior: Human Ecology

Greenville, South Carolina

Brooke just recently left the UT Journalism program to pursue a Textiles and Apparel degree, concentrating in Fashion Design, in the department of Human Ecology. She just completed her Theatre and Dance minor and is in her third year as a member of Texas Dance. She has been a spring show choreographer for the past 2 years, the publicity assistant, and the webmaster, a job which she still undertakes. Brooke has been dancing since the age of three and was previously a company member at Carolina Ballet Theatre in Greenville, SC and part of the Pre-Professional program at Ballet Spartanburg in Spartanburg, SC. She has been in ballets such at The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Alice in Wonderland, Peter and the Wolf, Snow White, and performed at The Spoleto Arts Festival in Charleston, SC each summer for 5 years. In high school, Brooke attended summer programs at Virginia School of the Arts, The Pennsylvania Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. Though ballet has always been her primary area of instruction, she has always been passionate about jazz and tap. Brooke also danced with her high school dance team at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC for 3 years and co-captained it her junior and senior years. When she isn’t dancing, Brooke plays Field Hockey for the UT RecSports team. She is a new member on the UT Leadership Board, an active member in the Texas Exes Student Chapter, a member of the University Fashion Group, and serves on the RecSports Council.

 

Assistant Director: Olivia Gardner

Senior-Marketing

Houston, Texas

Now in her fourth year at UT, “Liv” is studying Marketing in the McCombs School of Business. Before college, she studied ballet, tap, and jazz for 15 years at Cookie Joe’s Dancin’ School in Houston, TX. She has performed with several companies such as Ballet Forte, Ballet Grace, and The Jazz Co, in addition to teaching dance to under-privileged kids at the Star of Hope Mission. Liv has received scholarships from Tremaine Dance Convention, the Joffrey School of Ballet, Cookie Joe’s Dancin’ School, and Glasell School of the Arts. Also, she has performed in ballets such as Cinderella, Graduation Ball, Hansel and Gretel, and Les Sylphides, with lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Carousel, The Nutcracker, and Peter and the Wolf. She was also proud to be chosen as the model for the Pointes to Ponder ballet sculpture that was recently revealed in Houston at the Children’s Museum. Liv has choreographed for spring show the past 2 years of her 3 on the team and has served as Publicity and most recently, the Director for the 2003-2004 season. Brooke is very thankful to have Liv's experience to help out this year!

 

 

Co-Choreographer: Lynsie Martinez

Houston, Texas

This is Lynsie's second year as a member of Texas Dance. She has been dancing for the past 17 years and has performed at Abbott's Performing Arts Center in Houston. In high school, she was both a member and officer on the Langham Creek Bailadora Drill Team. Here at UT Lynsie is actively involved with her sorority, Delta Gamma, and is a member of Texas Exes. In between all her activities, she finds the time to maintain University Honors as well.

 

Co-Choreographer: Christa Schuck

Sophomore-English/UTeach

Rockwall, Texas

This is Christa's second year on Texas Dance. Before coming to UT she danced at Dallas Powerhouse and competitively, with Rowlett Dance Academy and Broadway Dance Center. She also served as Sr. Lieutenant and 1st Lieutenant of the Rockwall High School Stingerettes. Christa has also received various dance awards from West Coast Dance Explosion. In her spare time during the school year, she babysits for two adorable kids. After college she wants to be an English professor and open her own dance studio.

 

 

 

 

 

Treasurer: Cherilyn Yip

Junior-Biochemistry/Pre-Med

Austin, Texas

"Cheri" is a biochemistry and pre-med major, also in pursuit of a business foundations degree here at UT. This is her third year on Texas Dance, though she has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She has trained at Ballet Austin, Tinka’s Dance Studio, Dancer’s Workshop, and attended the Texas Dance Convention many times. Also, she has danced for the dance company at Tinka’s Dance Studio called the Movin’ Co., as well as for her high school drill team. Last season, she went to LA Dance Force with a group of girls on Texas Dance as well. She is also involved in three different honor societies on campus: the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Phi Eta Sigma. She tries to be as involved as possible and also enjoys swimming, volleyball, and playing the piano. Though she has lived in Austin pretty much her whole life, Cheri technically hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she was born.

 

 

 

Publicity: Monique Rodriguez

Junior-Kinesiology

Austin, Texas

This is Monique's second year as a member of Texas Dance. Originally from Austin, She is a third-year student who holds many honors and awards such as membership in OSHS Outstanding Student Honor Society and University Honors. She is also involved in MAHPO, the Mexican-American Health Professions Organization, and PTO, the Physical Therapy Organization. In Austin, Monique has danced at Atomic Dance Factory, Tapestry Dance Company, and performed for Steve Stylz (hip-hop artist) as a background dancer. For 3 years she was on the Lanier High School Drill Team holding officer positions each year including Soc. officer, Lieutenant, and Captain, and she was a cheerleader for a year as well. Monique also plays intermural softball and reguarly volunteers at the SSB in PT, with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.

 

 

Social/Historian: Jennifer Sparks

Sophomore-Advertising

Port Neches, Texas

This is Jennifer's second year as a member of Texas Dance. She is an advnertising major in the College of Communication here at UT. Before college, she was a cheerleader in high school and danced outside of school as well. She has nationally competed in both cheerleading and dance. Last year Jennifer served as assistant to the costumes officer and she is looking forward to her position this year!

Sophomore-Nursing

San Antonio, Texas

Sabrina is now in her second year as a member of Texas Dance. Before coming to UT, she was on her high school drill team and held various officer positions. Here at UT, she is pursuing a Nursing degree. Outside of school, she is actively involved in youth group both in Austin and at home in San Antonio. She is looking forward to being an officer next year!

Taylor joined Texas Dance 2 years ago, right as she graduated from high school. She served as Senior Lieutenant of her drill team at Cy Springs High School, which she had been on previous years as well. She lives for dancing and after 15 years of experience was sure that she didn't want to quit once she got to college. Taylor grew up taking dance classes at Carol Ehler Dance School where she met many of her lifelong friends. She loves being on the team and aspires share her love of dance by becoming a drill team assistant after graduating from UT. This is her first year as an officer and she is looking forward to an exciting year!

 

 

 


Meghan Loisel

Sophomore-History

Georgetown, Texas

Meghan hails from Georgetown, TX, right outside on the ouskirts of Austin. This is her first year as part of Texas Dance. She has been dancing for the past 15 years at Class Act Dance and Round Rock Repertory Dance Company. In the summer, she has been a camp counselor for programs with American Ballet Theatre and The Rockettes. Meghan graduated from her high school Suma Cum Laude and participates in pre-Law organizations here at UT, such as Texas Devils Advocates and Mock Trial Team, when she isn't dancing.
