Prospective Rowers

"Rowing is a sport for dreamers. As long as you put in the work, you
can own the dream. When the work stops, the dream disappears."

Rowing is a tough, beautiful, regal sport. Rowing is the first intercollegiate sport. Rowing has been watched for years along the Thames River in England, today with Rolls Royces and traditional white linens spread across the riverbank. In gritty Philadelphia and the east coast, rowing is prominent, with blue collared teams competing alongside Ivy League squads in the nation's oldest sporting events. A few times a year a team from Texas Crashes the party.

If you have ever witnessed the setting sun over Austin on Town Lake, you have not yet experienced the ultimate; gliding across the river while the sun sets and your heart races as you and your teammates chase the dream. The opportunity to represent the University of Texas in intercollegiate athletics with no prior experience entices many. The commitment to teamwork and individual excellence retains many. The best realize early that hard work and dedication are the only prerequisies for success in rowing. Hard work lets us chase the dream. The dream of lighting the UT Tower after a national championship. It is hard to describe why we do it, but ask any rower, and they'll tell you that the sense of achievement makes all the sweat worth it.

For all that rowing demands of you, it gives back tenfold. While you glide down Town Lake's glassy smooth waters with your teammates, you develop lifelong friendships. While you strengthen and build your muscles and heart, you discover and expand your limits. With focus and finesse, you learn persistence and patience. Above all, rowing teaches the essence of the word "team." In rowing, there are no individual medals. The success of the boat is all that matters, and all must work together in harmony to achieve it.

We are Texas Crew, the University of Texas at Austin's intercollegiate men's and women's club rowing team. Who are we looking for? Everyone who wants to work hard towards a dream.
