In a truly impressive feat of cross training and age defiance, a mixed team of rowers & coaches ran the 2nd annual Silicon Labs Marathon Relay. TX Crew placed 4th/53 in their division even though coaches Bob Krentler and Jon Braisted work out only 2x a week. They also seem to be pretty fast.
Texas Crew did not realize the race was not chip timed for the first leg. Clearly, this was the fault of nobody besides Jenna Willey who did not read the rules. So, while the first runner wasted *AT LEAST* 60 seconds working his way through moms pushing strollers, that time would have been good enough to finish first out of non pot-hunting teams (similar to some lightweight programs in Georgia.)
After the first two legs, no thanks to David Alviar and his new tattoo, Texas Crew was in 5th place. Thankfully, a heroic effort by Jon Braisted (after an equally heroic performance by Bob Krentler) catapaulted the horns into 2nd place. Jenna Willey's & John Mitrowski's 5ks were exciting as well, as the true competitor in each showed at the finish line. Or something.
Notably, and thankfully, Jenna Willey was able to join the team as a last minute substitution for sissy-boy Robert Freehill. Clearly this worked out for the best, as she probably ran faster than his tiny chicken legs would have anyway.
The quote of the day belongs to John Mitrowski at the finish line. Clearly out of breath, exhausted and happy to be finished, John looked over at his ex coaches and exclaimed simply: "I passed 53 people." We love, love, love, love it. # 10:31 AM
