University Management Association (UMA) is a professional organization whose purpose is to serve as a link between all students of The University of Texas and the management of a variety of businesses. Although it is a McCombs sponsored organization, it is open to students of all majors interested in management and will provide a means for students to come in contact with management in the business world.

Brief History:

UMA was originally started in the 1960s by Professor Joe Culver. He retired in 2004, and the organization became inactive around 2008 and eventually became nonexistent in 2009. In the fall of 2010, Professors Stephen Courter and Mary Dunn expressed interest in bringing back the organization to life. For a group assignment for Professor Dunn’s MAN 336 class, a group of six students took on the project of recreating a new organization under the name UMA. The current UMA is the product of their project.

What UMA does:

Meetings consist of speakers giving their professional insight to students about succeeding in the business world. Socials consist of various activities where UMA members can interact in a casual setting, meet each other, and enjoy free food and activities. Paying members will have the privilege of applying for the Allison Davis Blake scholarship. This scholarship endowment was originally raised by Professor Kathy Edwards during the old UMA. It consists of a $2500 award given to a UMA member once a year.

This is a great new organization to get involved in, with ample leadership opportunities! Now officially a Mccombs sponsored organization!!!
