As you well know, the one aspect that makes the sport of polo unique from others is the addition of four legs beneath your own and the 1,000 lb. body that serves as your teammate. The polo pony is chosen for its stamina, endurance, its ability to carry weight at high speeds, and its agility. Because of the wide range of talents the pony must possess, full or 3/4 bred thoroughbreds ranging from 15.0 to 16.0 hands are most commonly used.
The UT Polo Club has a string of 13 ponies at the moment, though we're constantly accepting new ponies. Our horses were donated to the club by various supportive polo enthusiasts, and have the necessary skills for our more experienced players while providing a safe foundation for our beginners.
After receiving a new donation, skilled team members spend time learning the pony's characteristics and club polo playing potential. Over a period of weeks, we are able to determine if the new pony will be a suitable addition to our club's string. If the horse is too difficult for the majority of club members to play or ride, or once a horse has become too old to continue playing polo, we put it up for sale at a reasonable price. If you can provide a good home and are interested in purchasing one of our sale ponies, please contact an officer (members page) for further information.
Check back soon for pictures of our beloved polo ponies.

The UT Polo Team is consistently offering quality horses for sale. These horses will be great for someone interested in barrel racing, polocrosse, beginner horse, trail riding, ranch work, etc... Please contant Taylor Choate (see members page) for more information.
