Academic Committee
The Academics committee's main focus is to use and develop programs (tutoring, study buddies) that are geared towards academic success and to recognize the academic achievements of the members of Valley Horns. The following activities are aimed towards reaching this committee's goals: Study Group, Academic Q&A sessions, Weekly Study sessions, Study Buddy List, Academic Recognition dinners, etc. Chair: Ruben Avendano (512) 919-3285
Community Service Committee
This committee's main goal it to engage Valley Horns members in various volunteer and community service projects in the Austin and the Rio Grande Valley community. The following activities/events are aimed towards the reaching this committee's goals: High School Internet buddies "pen pals", scholarship fundraising, maintaining our counselor contacts in the Rio Grande Valley, Adopt-A-School, etc. Chair: Monique Garcia (512) 892-3410
Finance Committee
This committee main duty is to raise funds through fundraisers and to establish a yearly budget for the organization. This committee will keep accurate records of all expenses, handle all internal and external financial transactions dealing with the Valley Horns and execute fundraising ideas and events for the organization. Public Relations Committee
This committee is responsible for publicizing upcoming and future club events throughout the organization and to the University at large. The following activities are aimed towards reaching this committee's goals: posting event flyers around campus on the kiosks, Daily Texan announcements, P.R. story "write ups", Meeting and Events member E-mails, maintaining the Valley Horns web site, monthly newsletter, etc. Chair: Alaina Lievens (512)912-7802
Social Committee
The main purpose of this committee is to foster a friendly atmosphere among Valley Horns members through monthly social/cultural activities and to sponsor/develop programs that deal with the awareness of the Valley culture. The following activities are aimed towards reaching this committee's goals: UT organization mixers, semester parties (max. 4 per semester,) movie/bowling nights, social dinners/dances, sending out member birthday emails, etc.
Valley Longhorn Mentor Program
(Big Brother/Big Sister)
This program's main goal is to help incoming/transfer students who are new to UT in their transition to the college setting by pairing them with an experienced student mentor. The mentor will share their time and impart some knowledge to guide their Little Brother/Little Sister (s) through this adjustment phase. The following activities/events are aimed towards the reaching this committee's goals: "Get-togethers", Fun Nights, Mentor advice, etc. Chair: Johanna Estrada (512) 919-1429
