Since its formation in 1976, the
University of Texas Water Ski Team has been an active three-event
competitive team. We are considered a club sport by the University,
and we have proven
our ability to consistently compete with the very best
NCWSA sanctioned
water ski teams across the nation. The three events we compete
in are slalom, trick, and jump. The University of Texas Water Ski
Team competes in the
South Central Conference of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association,
which includes schools from across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma,
and Arkansas.
The University of Texas
Water Ski team hosts its annual tournament, The Fall Classic,
in early September and travels to compete in at least five other tournaments
each year. We are comprised of between 30 and
50 members ranging in ability from beginner slalomer to advanced
competition skier. The top 5 men and women skiers in each of the
three events are considered the A-team. The remaining skiers in each
category are considered our B-team. Over the course of its
existence, the team has competed in 13 national
championships with the best finish being 5th in 1982.
We finished the 2007 season by placing
9th in Division 1 at Nationals. The top three teams from each
region compete in Division 1, and the next 2 compete in Division 2. After
earning a 3rd
place victory, we were able earn the third
South Central Region spot and go on to the Division 1 National
Championships.
