The UT Women's Chorus is
the oldest continuously active choral ensemble at the University of
Texas at Austin, performing since its formation in the 1920's.
While serious choral literature is always performed by this choir, the Women's Chorus also performs lighter and more current music in its programs. The choir performs a joint concert each semester with the UT Men's Chorus, and joins the other UT choirs in late fall for the annual Texas Choral Holiday Concert. Around campus, the UT Women's Chorus performs informally, singing the National Anthem at the Lady Longhorn's basketball games in the spring semesters and singing on the West Mall. The choir often volunteers around the Austin area, whether or not singing is required. Choir members who enjoy socializing find many opportunities to do so each semester, with the bi-annual beginning of the semester pizza party followed by many other social events. Additionally, the UT Women's Chorus is proud to participate each fall in the Texas Collegiate Women's Chorus Festival, hosted by a different Texas university each year. |
